Automatic Payments Buyer FAQs
Amazon Payments makes it possible for a seller to charge your selected payment method for your future purchases and payments. Some examples include:
- A recurring payment for a subscription for a fixed amount (for example, for a monthly magazine)
- A recurring payment of a usage based bill for a variable amount (for example, your electricity bill)
- Payments for purchases you may make in the future (for example, purchases of mp3 songs or games)
Once you authorise a seller to automatically charge your selected payment method, we will send you an email confirmation. You can modify or cancel this authorisation at any time by logging into the “Your Account” portion of our Site (https://pay.amazon.com/uk) via the Sign-in tab, in the top right corner of every page.
What is a Recurring Payment?
A "recurring payment" is a payment that occurs at regular or predetermined intervals over a specified time period. The recurring payment may be for a fixed amount or a varied amount, depending on your agreement with the seller.
What are other types of Automatic Payments?
The other types of Automatic Payments are payments for purchases you may make in the future, the frequency and the amounts of such purchases are not predetermined. Please note that Amazon Payments may limit the total amount a seller may charge to your selected payment method under your payment authorisation, including the total amount of charges for recurring payments.
What should a seller tell me before I agree to an Automatic Payment?
When you agree to an Automatic Payment, a seller must inform you of the amount of each recurring transaction, if known, the frequency of the charge and the duration of the arrangement. The seller must provide this information to you via email after you complete the registration for the service for which you authorise him to automatically charge your selected payment method.
The seller must also provide you with information about how you can cancel the Automatic Payment authorisation, and must promptly cancel your authorisation upon your request.
If the seller does not comply with the above policy, please report to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Will I receive notice when my selected payment method is charged?
You will receive an email confirmation from Amazon Payments when you are charged. If you do not believe you authorised a charge, please contact Amazon Payments Customer Support.
What payment methods can I use for Automatic Payments?
Credit cards and debit cards stored in your Amazon Payments Account may be used for Automatic Payments. You can change a payment method chosen for the Automatic Payments by visiting your Amazon Payments Account.
In the event you cancel any of the payment methods stored in your Amazon Payments Account, this may affect the authorisations you have given to seller or sellers for the Automatic Payments. Please note that you may still be liable for payment under the terms of the agreement with the seller and/or for any penalties and fees.
How do I cancel an authorisation I’ve granted to a seller?
You may cancel an authorisation you’ve granted to a seller for the Automatic Payments (including a recurring payment authorisation) at any time by logging into the “Your Account” portion of our Site https://pay.amazon.com/uk and cancelling the payment authorisation listed in the “Merchant Settings” section. Any payments currently in process may not be affected by this cancelation.
To avoid any possible unwanted charges for Automatic Payments, ensure that you cancel an authorisation at least five days prior to your next scheduled payment under your agreement with the seller.
Does cancelling the authorisation automatically terminate my service or purchase agreement with the seller?
No. Cancelling a standing authorisation through Amazon Payments only prevents the seller from charging your selected payment method going forward, and you may still be liable for payment and/or penalties or fees under the terms of your agreement with the seller. Please contact the seller directly to cancel your agreement with the seller.
How do I update the payment method I’ve authorised a seller to use?
You may update or change the payment method stored in your Amazon Payments Account and that you have selected for the Automatic Payments authorisation with the seller, by logging into the “Your Account” portion of our site https://pay.amazon.com/uk and selecting a different payment method from the “Merchant Settings” section of the site. To ensure that the updated or a new payment method is used for Automatic Payments under your agreement with a seller, you should take this action at least five days prior to your next scheduled payment. Any payments currently in process may not be affected by this change.
