Beneficial owner guidance

Your Amazon Payments merchant account is a regulated account that is used to receive funds processed through Amazon Pay and disburse them to you. Similar to banking institutions, Amazon is required by law to verify your personal, business, and banking information before you can use our service.

During or after registration, you can be asked to confirm the beneficial owners of your business. A beneficial owner is a natural person who owns more than 25% of the shares, or controls the merchant (business), or on whose behalf a transaction or activity is being conducted.

In some cases, a beneficial owner might not be directly affiliated with the company you register with Amazon Pay. If there are parent companies in your organizational structure, you must provide Amazon Payments with the ultimate beneficial owners who own more than 25% of the stock or voting rights.

You’ll need to provide individual beneficial owner information that matches information in the passport: full name, date and place of birth, address, and location of residence (country) for verification.

You can provide up to 4 beneficial owner names. If there are more than 4 beneficial owners, we’ll get this additional information from you later. To start that process, contact us. If we don’t hear from you, we'll contact you.

Note: If your business is considered a non-profit or charitable business- your trustees and/or members of the board also need to be added to the beneficial owner section.

In addition to adding beneficial owner information, you can be asked to upload one or more documents for proof of identity. This could happen either during or after registration. For example, we can ask for business-related documents such as statutes. Check your emails regularly.
